在某中学任教的理科教师城户诚（沢田研二 饰）看似悠闲自在，但是心中却有浓重的厌世情绪和反社会倾向。他白天认真授课，晚上则在自己的寓所进行一项惊世骇俗的研究。原来他竟在秘密制造小型原子弹，为此他不惜袭击驻地警察抢夺手枪，更潜入位于茨城县东海村附近的核动力研究所盗窃原料，以获得制造原子弹必须的钚和铈等重要元素。不久，他的作品顺利完成，城户扬言炸毁国会议事堂，并要挟政府按照他的指令行事。与之曾有一面之缘警察山下满洲男（菅原文太 饰）与这个疯狂的盗日者展开了连番纠缠…… 本片荣获1979年电影旬报十佳影片第2名、2009年电影旬报评选日本电影遗产200部第7名。。Sophia Loren stars as Phaedra, a poor sponge diver on the lovely Greek isle of Hydra.
